I actually do have an affinity for early to mid-90's grungy, pop kind of stuff. Sponge and Placebo fuck my shit up, but my tastes vary considerably. I've been known to field a playlist with James Brown on one end, and Scandanavian death metal band, Behemoth, on the other.
Mostly I dig songs with conscience. Big fan of early/classic rock and punk. I'm a Dylan head, too. I look for lyrics and novelty. I dig folk, indie, whatever that newer, syth-punk-noise genre is, hip hop, reggae, soul, grunge (yes, I will take frequent trips to flannel land). Not afraid of the singer-songwriters either.
My first recommendation, from Montreal, an indie band called Wolf Parade. The song is titled 'I'll Believe in Anything' and you should only listen to it very, very loudly.
Cheers
fine choice.
